Nylon pull rod tuning nuts

Fri Apr 05, 2024 2:10 pm

I’m in the process of (re)tuning my Fender/Sho-Bud pull/release Student model. I’m starting with the strings that have the fewest raises/lowers.

I have the first 3 strings sorted, including a half-stop on the 2nd. However when I try to tune the 10th I cannot get enough travel on the finger to tune the open string.

Conclusion? I need a new nylon tuning nut. Where can they be found?

Michael

Ok. So that was the wrong conclusion. Pedal travel adjustment sorted that.

Wouldn’t hurt to have spare tuning nuts tho’.

Hi there,
I saw you had it sorted with the pedal trav. FWIW The nylon hex nuts on my Fender are stripping their threads one by one at the minute. I think they're original, so the plastic can't be too clever.

I noticed they're solid at one end, so I tried drilling them out the other end. Just need a drill bit that's a gnats's smaller than the existing hole, and then pull the hex nut down over it.

So far, so good! And if it doesn't work, they were only fit for the bin anyway. :)

I bought 12 of each size (my 2 Fenders have different diameter pull rods) from Bob Adams. They are mighty fine and Bob is a great guy to deal with ( he also lives in Glasgow !).

Bob Adams' nylon tuners are the best I've come across bar none.
